The 12-year-old girl who went viral for busking on Grafton Street turned down The Ellen Show

“She just enjoys a bit of busking,” says Allie Sherlock’s dad. Fair play!

LAST WEEK, A video of 12-year-old Allie Sherlock busking on Grafton Street took over Facebook.

The Corkonian reached over one million people with her cover of Ed Sheeran’s Supermarket Flowers, and became a viral sensation.

Allie told the Evening Echo newspaper that she has been playing guitar for over three years, spending an hour practising each day.

However, she says it’s more of a hobby for her, and she’s not interested in pursuing it as a professional career:

I’d like to do childcare because my auntie owns a creche… Maybe I’ll [sing at] weddings. I’d like to see what happens in the future before deciding.

It’s for this reason, her father Mark says, that she turned down an offer from one of the biggest names in telly: Ellen DeGeneres.

He wants Allie to just enjoy her music without any pressure:

She had the Ellen Show in America contact her, but she’s only 12 and she just enjoys a bit of busking. My main thing is that Allie continues to be Allie, because she’s a child. She enjoys her singing and as soon as it isn’t fun anymore, that would be the end of it.

It sounds like she has a very sensible head on her shoulders. Well done Allie!
